How to play

The Game:

At the start of each hand, a dealer-button indicates the position of the dealer. For the next hand this button moves in a clockwise manner in accordance with the rules of the game. Before the game starts, Partypoker.com generates a fresh deck of cards automatically. A single deck of cards is used to play a hand of poker, i.e. 52 cards are used (excluding the joker). Random Number Generators, designed specifically for this purpose are used to shuffle the cards.

Random Number Generators:

Random sets of numbers are generated which aids in placing a card in a particular position. After a complete deck is created in this fashion, it is used for that hand only. The cards are shuffled before the beginning of each hand. The random numbers of the previous hand are discarded and new ones generated before the shuffle. The auditing of the Random Number Generator, that we use, has been done by BMM, Australia, and its integrity is verified on a daily basis.

The First Round:

A fresh table starts when the first person joining the table becomes the dealer and the next player posts a small blind. The button moves in a clockwise manner to the next player and this indicates a new game on the active table. The player against whose name the button is positioned is required to place a small blind bet. The small blind is half of the lower limit of the stake. This rule should not be taken in a strict sense as they simply act as guidelines. We round the small blind to the nearest dollar. For example, in a game where the betting limits are $5 and $10, the small blind would ideally be $2.5. However, we would round that up so that the small blind is $2. It should be noted that the guidelines say that the amount of the small blind can be set when the table is set up.

The person sitting to the left of the small blink has to bet the big blind. The big blind is equal to the lower limit of the stake. In some scenarios, more than one player might play the big blind. This usually happens when a player joins a table where a game is already in progress. The player is given the option of waiting for his turn (decided by the movement of the button) and then place the big blind or he can wait until the start of the next hand where he will have to place the big blind. All the blinds in Hold' em poker are regarded as live bets and hence they can be checked, called, raised or folded when the player gets his turn.

After the blind bets have been placed, the cards are dealt to the players with their faces turned down. In Hold' em, each player is dealt three cards, after which the round of betting begins. The betting starts with the player sitting on the left of the big blind. Every player can now place his bets, which should not exceed the lower limit of the stakes structure. For example, for a $10/$20 Hold' em game, the maximum bet in the first round should not exceed $10. Any player following this bet can "raise" the bet and bet twice as much ($20) or simply match the bet. Every following player should now match this new bet or raise further. Matching a particular bet is known as a "call" in Poker circles.

Every player is also given the option of a fold wherein he can leave the game and any amount that he has placed in the game will be lost. This round of betting will go on until all the players have placed similar bets i.e. no player has raised another player's bet.
