Poker Rules
A maximum of four bets per person are allowed. These include, one bet and three raises.
The final raise in a round of betting is termed as cap, since no further raises can be made. Once capped, players can either fold or call only. A player can fold at any stage of the game. This results in his cards being moved to the dealer.
Optionally, a player can check. This means that a player can pass his turn without placing a bet. This option is available to the player only in certain circumstances. These depend on the actions taken by the previous player. The bet of the previous player has to be equaled in each round of the hand.
When a game begins, each player is given a set number of chips. He has to use these chips only and not involve additional funds in the game. This is called the "table stakes" rule. The table stakes rule has an application called the "all-in" rule, which states that a player cannot be forced to forgo a hand because he does not have enough chips to call a bet.
Exceptions to the value of betting in each round:
When a player is declared All-In, he is eligible for the portion of the pot to the point of his final wager only. All further betting goes into a "side pot" which is unavailable to him. When such a player is still in the game, the pot with his bets is considered as the main pot. The side pot is given to the second best hand provided the player did not go all-in.
Since this is a multiplayer game, every player is required to complete his play in a set time frame. We provide the players with approximately 30 seconds in which to complete their turn. Initially, a player is given 10 seconds, after which the countdown timer begins for 20 seconds. If a play is not made within this time frame, the server automatically folds the player's cards. In case a player is disconnected and reconnects, with a few seconds of his time left, he is given 20 additional seconds in which to complete his play. If a player is unable to reconnect within the stipulated time, his status is said to be All-In. This means whatever pot has been collected this time is considered as the main pot and every additional bet is out into the side pot. The disconnected player is only eligible for the main pot.
For more information on the disconnection policy of our site, please visit www.partypoker.com. After the final round of betting, it is time or the showdown. This refers to the action of deciding the winner of the game. All the players display their cards (a player can opt against this and not reveal his cards). Five cards of the total of his personal and the community cards are considered and decided for the winning hand. The community cards are the one's which are placed on the table for everyone to see. They are placed at the beginning of each round.
A combination of the following may be used -
- Both personal cards and three community cards
- One personal card and four community cards
- All five community cards
At the end of the final round of betting, the player who bet first (or checked first if no other bet was forthcoming) is required to reveal their cards first. If they have a superior hand, the following players may or may not reveal their cards.
